Health Literacy: Vaccination

April 27, 2024
When patients hesitate to get vaccinated, it’s often because of a lack of health literacy. A provider may not have taken the time to explain why vaccines are important. Or, it may have been explained but wasn’t done in a way the patient could understand.
For patients concerned about vaccinations, make sure you’re providing information to them that is culturally sensitive and easy to understand. Patients need to know why they need to inject something into their body.
To overcome the health literacy hurdle for vaccines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention created the Vaccine Resource Hub. It’s an online library for patients to help them become more informed about vaccines. Also, it provides resources for providers with common talking points and graphics to help patients.
