SLEEP DISPARITIES IN BIPOC COMMUNITIES
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) are more likely to experience sleep disorders. Shorter sleep duration is linked to chronic health conditions. Disparities in healthcare access mean many go undiagnosed.
WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
Sleep disparities are driven by environmental factors like noise pollution and housing inequities, workplace stress and shift work that disrupt sleep patterns, and limited access to sleep disorder diagnosis and care.
THE IMPACT OF POOR SLEEP
Lack of sleep negatively impacts overall health, increasing the risk of heart disease and high blood pressure, contributing to anxiety and depression, and reducing focus, energy levels, and productivity.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
To address sleep disparities, we must advocate for better healthcare access and workplace policies, prioritize healthy sleep habits and bedtime routines, and raise awareness within BIPOC communities.
